Driving to Yasothon
Date: 31/12/2008
It is 9:41am (we left at 5am) and we're travelling at about 10kph. This was slower than average, which was about 20kph for the first 100km. Normally it would take about 1 hour to drive from Pathumthani to Saraburi - today it took 5 hours. A slow start to a day of driving that eventually totaled 13 hours.

Early morning on New Years Day we went to the local Wat to make merit. I was a little disappointed that I couldn't eat any the snacks on offer.

Apparently Christianity is quite popular in Mukdahan and nearby northern provinces. We were recommended to stop here by the police man at one of the preceding check points.

This is the second Friendship Bridge between Thailand and Laos. This one was built just two years ago. The Lao city on the other side, Savannakhet, is aiming to become a popular tourist/shopping attraction with casinos, large hotels and shopping centres.
Steve in Hospital in Yasothon
Date: 18/01/2009
After some great good, including Laap Bplaa, Som Tam Bpuu Bpalaa and Moo Yaw, and some whiskey on New Years night, I ended up in hospital on January 2 with a bad case of diarrhea. I spent the night there, which was a good idea because the next day I made the 13 hour drive back to Bangkok!
